Hi, I'm Jamie.
When I started college at Auburn University in the fall of 2013, I had my sights set on becoming a magazine editor and working in the publishing business. I chose to study Professional and Public Writing within the English Department in order to gain the editing, design, and rhetorical skills necessary to pursue a publishing career. During my four years at Auburn, I've excelled in all of my composition, editing, and journalism classes, and I've learned a lot about management, communication, and leadership through my extracurricular activities.
Over the past few years, I've become increasingly interested in nonprofit work. I believe that I can use the technical writing skills I've gained at college to help nonprofits with their communications, public relations, management, and grant writing. Since July 2017, I have been serving as an AmeriCorps member for Impact Alabama in Birmingham. I hope to gain ample experience in nonprofit, social justice work in my own community before pursuing a law degree in public interest law. While my dreams of being a magazine editor have shifted, I still believe that my bachelor's degree in Professional and Public Writing remains highly relevant to my career goals. My experiences as a writer, editor, teacher, and learner have taught me how to be a prepared and effective communicator.
